The Best Gifts for the Responsible Traveler

If you‚Äôre looking for the perfect gift for someone in your life (or maybe even yourself ūüėČ ) ¬†this list is a great resource for reusable, eco-friendly, and sustainable travel products that every traveler needs.¬†

Reusable, packable bags.

I can’t tell you how often I've used my bags when traveling. Many countries are not allowing plastic bags anymore (yay!) and others may charge you for a paper bag. Sometimes bags aren’t provided at all and you need to purchase reusable ones. Having your own ready-to-go bag makes things so much easier. And of course there are still many, many countries that do use plastic bags (the US included) so being able to use your own helps cut down on plastic use wherever you go!

Travel Coffee Cup

I love this insulated bamboo thermos. It comes with a tea diffuser if tea is your jam and you can even make cold brew in it! For a traveler, having your own container to carry your liquids with you is invaluable. Some places even still use (*gasp!) styrofoam! Bringing your own cup with you when ordering coffee or tea to go helps cut back on waste.
This cup will keep your hot liquids hot and cold liquids cold. Which is more than those disposable options will do!

Dry Shampoo/ Hair Care/ Body Care

Get Dirty With Me is an Australian made hair powder. Created by a traveler for travelers. Leah was tired of having to swap out her natural products when they ran out for the chemical-laden ones when traveling. What she created was a clay based, all-natural dry shampoo that can double as a wet shampoo by adding a little water.
Her Clean All the Things packs a super punch by replacing your shampoo, conditioner, body wash AND can be used as laundry detergent! And since all of her products are powder based, they are super easy to pack.

Bamboo Toothbrush

I know, getting a toothbrush as a gift sounds kind of lame, but hear me out… Toothbrushes are something that I never used to give much thought to, but they are plastic and have to get replaced every few months, what a waste!  Getting a bio-degradable bush will not only help save that plastic from the landfill, but the soft bristles are also great for your teeth and gums.

Insect repellent

This is something that we didn’t pack, but I wish I had on our year abroad. If mosquitos love you the way they love me, having repellent on-hand is a must! It’s hard to find non-toxic versions on the road, so packing a small bottle would be totally worth it.

Tiger Balm

Perfect for big bites, sore muscles, chest congestion, and abdominal pain. This little jar is worth its weight in gold for any traveler! It can also be used as an insect repellent if you want to skip on bringing two things, but I find the smell a little strong to wear all the time unless I have to.

Stainless Steel Straws

These little guys are great to pack if you just need to use a straw. Did you know, Over 500 million plastic straws are used in the US every day?! It's often something we don't even think about and many beverages automatically come with a straw. From cocktails to drinking water, they are hard to avoid. Next time you go out and order a beverage, ask them to hold the straw.
If you or someone does need a straw, these guys are great to have on hand and super easy to pack!

Give an Experience

There are some great organizations out there making waves in the travel industry by offering immersive travel experiences that actually benefit the communities.
Visit.org is one of those! You can purchase your adventure based on location and the type of cause you want to support. They also offer gift cards as well which makes this a great present for any traveler.
